Jake Mattison - 'Sorrow' - 4th June

JAKE MATTISON

SORROW

Released 4th June 2012

Jake Mattison is set to release his debut single Sorrow through Laissez Faire Club on 4th June 2012.

Jake Mattison is a Mancunian singer-songwriter whose songs are full to the brim with peculiarly innate, heart-felt soul. A former boxer who was plucked from a market stall to write songs for Simon Cowell's Syco label, Jake delivers beautifully crafted melodies in songs that inhabit the sort of real life that includes love and loss and addiction and desire. His voice, a brilliantly burred instrument that can soar and whisper without ever losing its richness and roundness.

In 2010, word of Jake's song-writing ability began to spread and Virgin Records asked him if he'd be interested in writing with Emeli Sandé. “I didn’t hear them properly in the meeting, though”, Jake says, “as I’m deaf in my left ear and have limited hearing in my right, so I walked out without saying anything!” Happily, none of that mattered too much and Jake went on to support Emeli on tour in 2011.

Sorrow is a mesmerising folk tale of pain and love lost with deep and momentous, yet soulful vocals and a rhythmic recurring bassline. Despite the despondent name of the track, Sorrow culminates in rapturous, gospel harmonies of joy in which the listener can revel. The single is set for release 4th June 2012 through Laissez Faire Club.

Big Wave - The Roots of Love (Come Tumbling Down) EP

Big Wave

The Roots of Love

(Come Tumbling Down) EP

Soft Power Records

June 11th

‘’Big Wave are at least a thousand times better than even the best of your 'chillwave' acts’’

Keep Pop Loud

Big Wave are a 5 piece lo-fi guitar pop band from Torquay made up of old friends Ella (vocals/guitar), Rikki (guitar), Matt (drums), Pete (bass) and Mel (keys).

The group bonded in the local haunts of Torquay over a shared interest in pop music, alcohol and terrible dancing.  Having previously been in other bands together Rikki, Ella and Pete added Matt and Mel to the line up and Big Wave was born. In true sitcom style the band all live together.  To the bemusement of their landlord and neighbours, this has resulted in the inevitable regular living room ‘shouty’ rehearsals.

The band has previously self released their own ‘Another Year or Two EP’ and also featured on the ‘Dry Route to Devon’ compilation on Art is Hard Records. To accompany the release of ‘AYOT’ the band shot their own beautifully, charming DIY video to the lead track. The video perfectly encapsulates Big Waves dreamy, seaside pop sound.

Lead track on the new E.P ‘Circumstance’ picks up where ‘AYOT’ left off, fusing ethereal dream pop textures, jangly guitars and cooed vocals. The influences on display are diverse.  Classic C86/Sarah Records bands, elements of Soul and Motown to the best of 4AD's late 80s output all help make up the sound - hazy, poetic and playful.  The band also cites Belle and Sebastian, Pulp, Blondie, Pavement and Fleetwood Mac amongst their many musical influences.

The Roots of Love (Come Tumbling Down) is due for release June 11th via Soft Power Records.

Live shows around the release of the E.P include The George Tavern, London on Friday 15th June.

Track listing: 1. Circumstance 2. Blissed Out 3. The Roots of Love (Come Tumbling Down) 4. Another Year or Two 5. Leavers Party

Marina And The Diamonds - Postpones UK Tour Due To Illness

POSTPONES UK TOUR DUE TO ILLNESS

Marina and the Diamonds has had to unfortunately postpone her UK tour, due to commence this Thursday in London, due to urgent doctors’ orders received today.

Due to a damaged vocal cord which Marina became aware of three weeks ago and has suffered from vocal problems since, her doctor has advised her to not to sing until the end of May while she undergoes treatment. The full statement from Marina is below;

“It is with huge regret that I have had to postpone my UK tour dates due to medical advice. I have been experiencing vocal problems for 3 weeks now and consequently today the Doctor has told me that I cannot sing performance length shows while I undergo treatment, or I could cause permanent damage to my vocal chords.

I am distraught as I was so looking forward to seeing you all on The Lonely Hearts Club tour. The good news is that we have managed to reschedule all the dates - except Leeds which is a festival - starting from the 18th June.  I promise that these shows will be the best I have ever performed for you, as hopefully I will be 100% healthy! All existing tickets will be valid for the new dates and I also promise my Leeds Diamonds that I will see them in the Autumn.
As you know, today is the release date for Electra Heart and the people who buy my records and concert tickets mean the world to me. I hope you understand that not being able to play for you in May is very upsetting.

However, together, we will make the rescheduled June Lonely Hearts Club tour unforgettable.

With all my Love,
Marina.”

The rescheduled tour dates are as follows –

June 18th              Norwich               Waterfront
June 20th              Glasgow               ABC
June 21st              Edinburgh           Queens Hall
June 22nd             Manchester       Cathedral
June 24th              Leamington        Assembly Hall
June 25th              London                 Tabernacle
June 27th              Cardiff                  Corn Exchange
