Bachelorette reveals psychedelic new video for ‘Blanket’ - Album out now!

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Following her UK and European tour last month, Bachelorette (aka Annabel Alpers) hasn’t rested, as we can now bring you her kaleidoscopic new video for ‘Blanket’, taken from her self-titled, third album.

You can see the video for ‘Blanket’ here:

http://vimeo.com/26766672

Vibrant, psychedelic and at times a little bit trippy, those that have had the pleasure of witnessing Bachelorette’s live show will see the similarities between Alpers’ stage effects and the images used in this video.

Directed by Steven Grisé, the video complements the track perfectly, capturing the very essence of Bachelorette’s music.

Mixed by Nicholas Vernhes at Rare Book Room (Animal Collective, Beach House) in Brooklyn, the twelve tracks that make up the album ‘Bachelorette’ are built on minimal synth grooves, strummed guitar, innocent whistles wandering through cold hallways, and occasional accompaniment on drums. But all are guided by Alpers’ ethereal lead vocal.

Big Deal announce additional dates for their UK tour, full details below.

The band take to the road for a headline tour of the UK that includes a London date with support from Weird Dreams and Netherlands at Tamesis Dock on 7 September (please note: date change, original tickets will still be valid). The tour coincides with the release of their debut album Lights Out, and the new single Chair, out on 5 September 2011.

In addition to the September tour, Big Deal appear at several festivals across the UK including Reading & Leeds, End Of The Road, Underground and Constellations and play a series of free shows in Cornwall.

Having wowed audiences during the NME radar tour earlier this year and most recently at the Wireless festival in London, Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe’s sweet and seductive sound is all the more magical live. With their mesmeric chemistry and hard-hitting restraint being brought to the fore, audiences leave with the sense that they have been privy to a secret exchange; a big deal indeed!

SPIRIT OF BURGAS - 12th - 14th AUGUST 2011 BURGAS, BULGARIA

SPIRIT OF BURGAS HOTTING UP - LEFTFIELD, SUICIDAL TENDANCIES, SKINDRED, SCRATCH PERVERTS AND MORE

SPIRIT if Burgas is hotting up with 2 weeks to go and more acts added to the lineup, including leftield, Suicidal tedancies and Scratch Perverts. Taking place in Burgas from 13th -15th August on the city’s central beach, Spirit is set against the beautiful backdrop of Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast. Growing year on year the Boutique beach festival attracts thousands of festival goers from Bulgaria and beyond to party together on the beach in the hot Balkan sunshine. No mud, rain or cold - its sun, sea and sand all the way!

SPIRIT has also teamed up with No Mud to offer a great festival package of only £389 from the UK! Package includes flights, accommodation, transfers and festival ticket. Find out more here http://www.nomud.com/spirit-of-burgas-overview.aspx

Adding to the already announced headliners of Moby, Skunk Anansie and Deftones on the Main Stage the line up is almost complete with 5 stages of music on offer. The festival will also feature over 100 acts showcasing the best local and regional artists alongside top international acts. And what better location to experience it than Burgas city beach, with stunning views of the Black Sea coastline, stretching over 20km.

Suicidal Tendancies bring their unique blend of hardcore crossover thrash-metal to the Main Stage on Friday 12th August. Established in Venice, California, at the beginning of the 80’s, the group is one of the first heavy metal bands, which has managed to go on air at MTV. To date, current members of the band are: Mike Muir – vocals and founder of the group, Mike Clark – guitar, Eric Moore – drums, Dean Pleasants – guitar, Steve Brunner – bass player. During the intervals between touring the group manages to steal time and go to the studio to record track after track for their brand new album, which the musicians claim will be a mixture between their old trash sound and a new sound. The promo of the album will be in 2012.

On Sunday 14th August festival goers will be treated to one of the worlds biggest names in electronic music, Leftfield. Having saved the authentic spirit of the fundamental Leftfield, Neil Barnes revived Leftfield in the summer of 2010 and meets with great enthusiasm every new live encounter with the audience. Joining him on the main stage will be Adam Wren (keyboards) and Sebastian Beresford (drums), with original vocalists Djum Djum, Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat. Having started at the end of the 80’s the project distinguished itself with the innovative intelligent approach towards the creation of dance music. Their specific sound is due to the skilful mixing of house music with reggae and dub, as well as the use of live vocals into the tracks with Leftism still regognised as one of the 10 key albums from the 90’s.

Also on Sunday will be the British band Skindred, who’ sound is a skillful combination of punk, rock, metal, reggae and electronic music. The front man of the band – Elvis Benji Webbe, today is considered to be a real music icon. Behind him undoubtedly stand the other members of the band – the bass player Dan Pugsley, the guitar player Mikey Demus and the drums player Arya Goggin. Skindred also picked up ‘Devotion Award’ at this years Kerrang! Awards.

SPIRIT Dance Nights:?
After midnight the Main Stage of SPIRIT of Burgas turns into a dance arena, showcasing DJs and MCs from different music styles. The dance nights begin when the euphoria from the concerts is at its peak, when the moon looks in its full beauty in the sea water, and the sand at central beach of Burgas has become red hot from the thousands of people dancing!

Friday August 12th has been reserved for the label True Badness. One of the best in the line-up will be the dubstep legend DJ Benga. The Bulgarian public will have the first unique opportunity to meet the dubstep guru live and direct with MC Youngman. Benga is a true legislature in his genre, a personality behind the music-stand. Also performing will be the Romanian miracle Bong, Tommy Gun, World Premiere and Tekniq.

Saturday August 13th is devoted to the titans in the drum-and-bass culture in Bulgaria – the label H.M.S.U., which has turned its participation in the festival into an annual tradition. Artists performing include Shy FX and Stamina MC and the HMSU Crew - Mocks, Ogonek, EXo, Konspirator. ?

The finale on Sunday August 14th, will begin with a cherished cult hip-hop formation - Scratch Perverts. In fact they are much more than simply hip-hop. They are DJs with a long history and numerous awards from DMC championships. They are capable of taking any music piece from any music style and transforming it in an incredible way into a hip-hop rhythm. Scratch Perverts will be supported by the famous Bulgarian hip-hop label ILLMATE with performances from Fars, Wosh, Logo5, DJ Darkstep, Diwaddloe, DJ Bashment, The Top Stoppers, Jamez Bongg and Soulization.

GRIMES “Geidi Primes” - Full length CD/ LP re-release on No Pain in Pop, out August 8 2011

Watch the new video for “Beast Infection”

DOWNLOAD ALBUM HERE: http://www.yousendit.com/download/cnJnblFGaTFENlEwTVE9PQ

Grimes – aka 22 year old Montréaler Claire Boucher - makes a special kind of weird pop which is far removed from any of that of her peers and extremely broad in it’s references. Frequently beautiful, melancholic and scary but always immediate, her tracks are a peculiarly accessible mix of Broadcast, Bjork, Kate Bush and the codeine heavy beats of previous No Pain In Pop artist Nite Jewel.

Her debut record Geidi Primes is the synthesis of this unconventional, genre-bending approach to music. ‘Gambang’ is led by a playful sample and Boucher’s chameleon like vocals; the melancholic ‘Venus In Fleurs’ pairs a post-rock guitar line with a Salem-style low end; and album standouts ‘Avi’ and ‘Fyed Rautha Dark Heart’ offer up two supremely catchy pop choruses.

Originally released by Montreal’s Arbutus Records as a free download and cassette in early 2010, Geidi Primes is being re-released by renowned London label No Pain In Pop (Forest Swords, Nite Jewel, Echo Lake) in support of her European tour this autumn.

Taking Back Sunday Forced to reschedule the majority of their upcoming UK tour

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Taking Back Sunday have been forced to reschedule the majority of their UK tour that was due to commence next week due to unavoidable scheduling conflict which has severely limited the time that they can spend on these shores.

The band’s show at London’s Roundhouse is still set for May 20th as originally planned, while the Nottingham Rock City show moves from May 14th to May 19th. All other shows will be rescheduled for August and early September, listed in full below. Tickets for the delayed shows will remain valid for the new dates. All tickets for the Liverpool show are now valid for the new Manchester date, or refunds at point of purchase.

Front man Adam Lazzara says “We are terribly sorry to have to reschedule some of these dates as we are always so thankful for the support over in the UK.  We promise to give you the best shows we have in us when we are there.”

Taking Back Sunday’s shows on the main stage at the Leeds and Reading festivals (August 26th and 28th) are unaffected:

August

23rd – Glasgow ABC

24th -  Manchester Academy

26th -  Leeds Festival

28th -  Reading Festival

29th -  Bath Pavilion

30th -  Norwich UEA

September

1st -  Birmingham Institute

2nd -  Southampton Guildhall

The band’s upcoming self-titled fifth album will be released on June 27th on Warner Bros. Records. The album was produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Lostprophets) who also helmed Taking Back Sunday’s ‘Louder Now’ album which topped Kerrang!’s 2006 Album of the Year poll. Writing for the album commenced at the Sonic Ranch, a studio based in a pecan ranch in El Paso, Texas shortly after the five members reunited last year and continued at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, while the recording took place at Barefoot Recording in Hollywood.

The band offered a first teaser of the album when they unveiled a demo version of ‘Best Places To Be A Mom’ on their official website. The song was premiered on the band’s brief June 2010 US tour that they embarked upon shortly after announcing that Nolan and Cooper had returned to the fold. They subsequently followed it with ‘El Paso’, a raw blast of garage-rock vitriol and loud/quiet/loud dynamics and the first completed track to emerge from the recording sessions.

Holiday Shores - ‘New Masses For Squaw Peak’

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Released on 17th October 2011

Half Machine Records

“A dizzying, slow-paced number that feels equal parts tropical and Studio 54. The smoothest notes lie waiting at the end, bursting forth when less than a minute remains.”  - Altered Zones

“If the record is anything like “Spells”, constantly shifting and staying away from boring verse-chorus-verse formulas, Holiday Shores are going to be turning lots of heads.” - I Guess I’m Foating

On October 17th 2011 Holiday Shores will be releasing the second album, ‘New Masses For Squaw Peak’, a real step on from their brilliant, zeitgeist spearing, debut ‘Columbus’d The Whim’.

‘New Masses For Squaw Peak’ sees them channeling ‘Here Come The Warm Jets’ era Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Donald Fagen and Can, but losing none of their trademark twinkling and zigzagging melodies, building their shape shifting pop in to something as wide open a landscape as the title suggests.

‘New Masses for Squaw Peak’ is packed tight with style: experimentation; jazz-chord death-pop; shifty proto-prog; nervy, dissonant, white funk; instinctive tribal rhythms; historical and personal mythologies weaved through its passages, creating something akin to pop sci-fi.  Described as equal parts Studio 54 and tropical.

‘New Masses For Squaw Peak’ was laid to tape in the belly of an abandon Philadelphia textile factory; run through three mixing boards by three separate sets of hands; and ultimately mixed into its final form by the band.

Holiday Shores are Nathan Pemberton on vocals and guitar, multi-instrumentalists Josh Martin and Brian Forfa and drummer John Frank.
