Releases ‘Let Them Talk: Special Edition’ on November 14th on Warner Bros. Records

“Laurie’s blues almost borders on gospel, if only for the powerful devotion he exudes throughout this set of musical tributes to the long list of greats who have moved him.” – The Independent

Hugh Laurie will release ‘Let Them Talk: Special Edition’ on November 14th on Warner Bros. Records. Available on CD/DVD and digital download formats, this is an expanded version of his critically acclaimed debut album that entered the charts at #2 when it was released earlier this year. The album has since reached Gold status and has sold over half a million copies worldwide to date.

‘Let Them Talk: Special Edition’ compiles the original ‘Let Them Talk’ album with four new recordings and a live DVD. Three of the new tracks were recorded with original album producer Joe Henry in Los Angeles in early October: the focus track ‘Hallelujah, I Love Her So’ is Laurie’s interpretation of Ray Charles’ classic 1956 single; ‘Waiting For A Train’ was originally written by early country pioneer Jimmie Rodgers; and ‘Crazy Arms’, a Ralph Mooney and Chuck Seals composition popularised by Ray Price. The fourth new recording is a live version of ‘You Don’t Know My Mind’ that was recorded in Paris in May.

The ‘Special Edition’ is completed by a DVD which features Hugh’s special live performance and documentary ‘Let Them Talk – A Celebration of New Orleans Blues’ which was recorded in New Orleans, and features the legends Sir Tom Jones, Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint. The 45 minute film features live footage of many of the highlights of the ‘Let Them Talk’ album.

Proceeds from the sales of Hugh Laurie’s new single ‘Hallelujah, I Love Her So’ will be donated to the BBC’s Children in Need appeal (with a minimum of 20p per download). Laurie will also offer further support to the charity when he performs the track with Jamie Cullum at the Children in Need Rocks charity concert which will be held at Manchester’s M.E.N. Arena on November 17th. The event will be broadcast live on BBC One between from 8pm.

‘Let Them Talk: Special Edition’ unites Laurie’s musical talent with a very personal selection of standards and lost blues classics performed with the Copper Bottom Band, a collective of internationally renowned musicians and some very special guest stars. Together, they interpret and revive songs originally recorded by NOLA blues legends such as Lead Belly, Robert Johnson, Ray Charles and Memphis Slim.

The original version of ‘Let Them Talk’ has become a true global hit landing Top 10 chart positions in nine markets as well as Top 40 chart positions in a further eleven. To date, the album has peaked at #16 on the US Billboard album chart and has topped the Billboard blues album chart since launch.

Introducing White Powder Gold

White Powder Gold EP
5th December 2011
Twenty One Records
“A band on a mission to filter dub step, electro, indie, R&B and hip-hop through the cosmic gateways of melodic pop. “
Art Rocker  Magazine

“ White Powder Gold’s “council estate indie” banger Can’t Stop Me was remixed by Marco Del Horno to create this sick remix banger “
Rwd Magazine

After enjoying overwhelming industry support from the underground up, White Powder Gold are now ready to take their unique sound to the masses, one step at a time. The London-based band – made up of old college friends, Jermaine, Jamie and new member’s Corey and Chris – released their first EP. The EP contains 4 tracks including previous single Can’t Stop Me Now is set for release by Twenty One Records on December 5th 2011.

Described as “council estate indie”, the urban-loving BAND aren’t worried about being labeled, as they draw influences from a wide range of musical genres: “We love a range of sounds. The Stooges, Beastie boys, Rage against the Machine, Sizzla, The Stone Roses and house producers/artists like Claude Von Stroke and Daft Punk influence us, but regardless, we always try to come with our own unique vibe, which make’s WPG (White Powder Gold) who we are.”

Having already supported GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, and performed at some of London’s most edgy and respected music venues, White Powder Gold are set for some big things in the year to come: “We make the music we love. Sometimes that means hard bass, sometimes it’s a guitar riff, but it always comes from the soul.” – Jermaine and Jamie.
Previous single Can’t Stop Me Now, garnered the band support from BBC 1 Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, MTV, Artrocker Magazine, Record Of The Day,  among many others.

The EP is a continuation of the band’s punk, indie, hip hop, reggae, pop and overall genre defying and unique sound. Consisting of four tracks and two remixes (Lewi White and Marco Del Horno) Rock N Rolla being the lead track, the heavy distorted guitar riff and punchy lyrics, make this band a total breath of fresh air. The White Powder Gold EP provides a space for the listener to vent their angst, punch the air and simultaneously move their hips. This EP is a total must!

The White Powder Gold EP has been released through Twenty One Records on December 5th 2011. For music and live dates please check:

STREAM FIRE HERE (PLEASE SHARE): http://soundcloud.com/troumaca/fire

Tracklisting: 1. Fire, 2. Sanctify, 3. Layou (Dub)

This tropically inspired 5 piece from Birmingham via St Vincent & The Grenadines, will release their debut EP, ‘The Gems’, as a free download from 12th December 2011.

Flying the flag of both classic British indie and forward thinking progressive electronic music, Troumaca pioneer sounds that have formed from the development of UK bass music fused with tropical riffs, dubby bass lines and big guitar leads and are at the heart of where UK music is heading.

Having the Midlands scene locked since they started last year they are set to be known round the country and no doubt will be mentioned in the same breath as Friendly Fires, Mount Kimbie, The XX, James Blake, and the like.

Founders of Birmingham creative collective MHVH, Troumaca bring together a community of young people that are serious about what  they are doing: Designers, writers, artists, promoters and photographers all contribute to the site, which is a window to, and a platform for, their city and the wider world.

Long term associates of Bigger Than Barry, the Midlands’ most infamous rave, Troumaca have gone on to create their own club nights, Elixir, Moschino Hoe-Versace Hottie, and, the now well-loved Troumaca&Friends parties. To get a taste of their sonic palette, take a listen to the band’s forthcoming mixtapes, which accompany their self-produced debut, ‘The Gems EP’.

Like all the best British bands, their true essence is best delivered
via the live show. You can catch them on the following dates:

Coventry  31st October  - Kasbah
Sheffield  23rd November  - The Forum
Nottingham  3rd December  - Stealth & Rescue Rooms

LEAD SINGLE: ‘FIRE’: There is a wisdom that permeates all Troumaca’s songs, but whether its the recent riots in Birmingham and London, or a global economic crisis, ‘Fire’ warns us of the dangers of greed.  The fool hardy speaker knows his search for treasure will ultimately end in failure, yet he is still driven to take up the quest, to ignore the warnings, to have what is not his, to lose the things he loves.  Is this not the condition of us all today? ‘Fire’, a tale of regret and a warning shot could only have come from living through these times.

The Troumaca tribe are Sam Baylis, Geoffrey Foulkes, Tom Gregory, Matthew Campbell, and Jim Nayak.

Woman’s Hour - Jenni / Human

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

“They revel in dead space, unafraid of the pauses, not unlike The xx. Slow burn synths and esoteric song structures paint vivid pictures”
Loud & Quiet

Woman’s Hour formed in 2010 as a three piece consisting of siblings Fiona and William Burgess on vocals and guitar respectively and Nicolas Graves on bass. Hailing from Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District, all three members grew up together but they only started making music when they moved South to London, a reaction to boredom as much as anything. They set out to make pop songs in arrangements that highlight sparse and dense sounds offset by electronic drums and have evolved into a truly unique live act. Three turned into four as Woman’s Hour were joined by long time friend Josh Hunnisett who provided a new viewpoint, opening up areas of songs that previously wouldn’t have been there and adding a brave, experimental outlook to their sound.

Jenni and Human will be the band’s debut release. The double A-side single will be released by Dirty Bingo Records on the 5th December on limited edition vinyl 7”.

The tracks were recorded in Leeds by Wild Beasts producer Richard Formby. Inspired by Formby’s direction and their return North, Woman’s Hour have created an inimitable snapshot into their lives and ours, as distinct in its meaning as it is in its sound.

Anomie Belle Announces New Single ‘Machine’ Feat MR. LIF + Music Video

ANOMIE BELLE
NEW SINGLE – MACHINE FEAT. MR. LIF

Seattle-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and film composer Anomie Belle teams up with hip-hop emcee Mr Lif (The Perceptionists, Thievery Corporation) to release her new music video for “Machine.”

Lif and Anomie first teamed up in 2009 to perform at Bumbershoot in Seattle and immediately connected around their shared values and musical sensibilities. These days, the two find that they are not alone. “A bright and prescient lyricist, [Anomie Belle’s music] should be the theme song to the Occupy Wall Street movement,” writes James Stafford. “I’m elated so many are mobilizing with “Occupy” protests in many cities,” Lif writes. “Without these types of movements, corporate greed will continue to run amok & destroy everything in it’s path unchecked. [My music] is made in the spirit of sparking & supporting these types of efforts… musical ammo for the movement.”

In “Machine,” Lif and Anomie dish out harsh criticism of the enormous discrepancies in wealth, avarice, oppression and poverty that characterize modern society. “We create systems that justify our greed, embody culture that makes it easy to believe that hollow pleasures and the lassitude of wealth are not days squandered on fixation with yourself,” Belle sings.

In “Machine,” the two are quick to point fingers inward as well as outward, donning the attire of both the perpetrators and the victims of economic inequality in their new music video. “I have done unconscionable things in pursuit of dreams fed to me on the screen, and how is my life so much more precious than anybody else?” The chorus rings.

“Piecing her name together from words meaning social unrest and a beautiful and charming woman, Seattle trip-hopper Anomie Belle has lofty aims echoing her view of music as a powerful vehicle for education and enlightenment. Meshing sultry vocals and moody instrumental programming, with a healthy amount of layering added to both, Anomie Belle tackles spectacle and alienation both lyrically and sonically,” writes Seattle Weekly. “Beautiful Desocialization and is a moniker quite apropos for Anomie Belle,” writes Hellbomb. “Her songs are critical of blind adherence to consumerism. They’re swanky and sexy, but they also champion individuality and critical thinking.”

Lif has long been noted for his socially conscious and critical lyrics, and is currently touring with Thievery Corporation in support of his appearance on the title track of their new album, Culture of Fear. “Mr. Lif’s lyrics often have a sharp political edge and a strong message of uplift and community,” writes NPR.

“I grew up in your prototypical American suburb,” Anomie Belle explains. “The manicured lawns, strip mall parking lots, chain stores, and massive expanses of cement and housing developments depressed me. I chose the moniker Anomie Belle to speak to the decadent alienation of the American dream.”
