MusicDish*China Sponsors China’s JUE | Music + Art 2012

Music media and marketing company MusicDish LLC announced that its Asian brand MusicDish*China is an official media sponsor of JUE | Music + Art 2012 held in both Beijing and Shanghai, China. Now in its fourth year, JUE | Music + Art is an annual open-source arts and music festival presented by Split Works. Held from March 9 - 25, the festival is all about celebrating the best of the local creative communities in these two great cities, and inviting artists from around the world to showcase their talent in China.

"Split Works has always been on the cutting-edge of China's emerging cultural scene and industry," said MusicDish*China founder Eric de Fontenay. "It's a pleasure to be working them on such an innovative event.

Most recently, MusicDish worked on the 'Made in Taiwan' shows featuring Taiwanese award-winning rock band Mayday at Midem and Paris' Divan du Monde in January.

Launched at MIDEM 2010 in Cannes, France, MusicDish*China is the latest online brand from MusicDish LLC, a digital music company, providing a unique insight into China's emerging music industry. Tony Adamo & Mike Clark: Groovin’ High

Legendary drummer, Mike Clark (Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters) and the highly respected musician, trumpet player, big band leader and music arranger, Tim Ouimette recently completed the mix for vocal/hip- spokenword artist, Tony Adamo’s new CD at Ouimette’s recording studio in upstate New York. Adamo and Clark started this music project in the summer of 2011 after Clark recorded with Adamo on a new cover for Tower of Power’s “Soul Vaccination.” It was at that point a music alliance was formed between the two, and Clark became the music producer for Adamo’s new CD.

Music industry insiders who have listened to some of the new cuts off this CD have commented that Adamo and Clark have come up with a fresh new sound in vocal/hip-spokenword laced with a funk musical attitude. Tim Ouimette said “This project is so original and bluesy groovin’ and is sending all the right messages. I am just really happy to be involved.”

Tony Adamo is a Strokeland Record artist. Strokeland is owned by funk icon, Stephen “Doc” Kupka of Tower of Power. “Doc” Plays on Adamo’s new CD.

Shanren Teams Up With ClubCreate To Remix Chinese ‘Drinking Song’

As part of web campaign in support of their first North American tour, MusicDish*China announced that Southern China's indie folk band Shanren has launched a remix project in partnership with music platform ClubCreate. Stems of their track "Drinking Song" have been made available to ClubCreate's international community and Shanren fans to create their own remixes at http://www.clubcreate.com/studio/shanren

"Working with Shanren exemplifies our goal of bringing the world together with music," said ClubCreate Co-Founder & President Craig Swann. "Music is the international language and we strive to connect all musical styles and walks of life to join together and celebrate through music. This project is the first, in what we hope to be many, uniting the music and people of the East and West. We're excited to see what our community of creators will do to transform this song into something completely new and different."

Earlier this year, Shanren (literally "Mountain Men"), traveled across China's Yunnan province to take in and film the rich indigenous musical traditions. The band members, whose own songs mix folk melodies with rock and world music influences, visited rural villages of Yi, Lisu, Nu, Tibetan, and Wa minorities. While joining the villagers in song and dance, they found the music so tied up in the drinking culture-downing copious amounts of the local equivalent of moonshine, fiery homemade liquor distilled from rice or sweet corn-that they turned the boozy footage into the video for their "Drinking Song."

"Our focus for this web campaign was to find innovative ways to connect fans with Shanren's rich music and cuture from China's southwestern Yunnan and Guizhou provinces," noted MusicDish*China Founder Eric de Fontenay. "I can think of no better way to acquaint people with the music than a remix project and ClubCreate has been a great partner in getting it off the ground."

In addition to the remix project, Shanren earlier launched a crowdfunding campaign through RocketHub as a means to connecting with fans. Signed to Beijing Jade Bird Music, Shanren bring together a group of four musicians with members representing the Wa and Buyi ethnic minorities. Employing instruments like the xiangzi and qinqin (four-stringed plucked instruments) and xianggu (a type of drum), they play both original compositions and reworkings of traditional folk songs, adding touches of rock, reggae, and ska. While the band members preserve their cultural heritage and update it for a 21st-century audience, the result is a global dance party along the lines of Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao, or their countrymen Hanggai.

First up on the agenda? A Lucy Angel episode on a brand new series, on a national TV network, of course. Contrary to the popular saying, the girls are going big AND going home. The episode, which will premiere Saturday, February 25th at 9:30 PM E/P, will also be the national TV debut of Lucy Angel’s brand new single “Cowboy Can” which the trio co-wrote with their producer Anthony Smith. HGTV cameras visited the studio when Kate, Lindsay, and Emily were recording the track to give fans a behind the scenes look at the making of this soon-to-be radio hit. “Cowboy Can” will be available for download from all good download sites February 24th. The show will also feature 4 songs from the group’s self-titled EP, including the singles “Only Woman Left” and “Serious”.

And that’s just the start of it. DPulse/Sony Germany Signs Sylencer For Star Studded European Release

dPulse Recordings / Ovrtone Music Group, Inc., and distribution partners NEO MCC GmbH/ Sony Music Entertainment Germany are pleased to announce the addition of Sylencer to our growing family of artists for the European market.

Featuring guests performances by Rob Caggiano (Anthrax); Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater); Brendon Small (Dethklok); Gene Hoglan (Fear Factory) and a roll call of many other top names in metal, prog and thrash. The yet un-named Sylencer debut is the conceptual brainchild of founding members Markus Johansson (Lead Vocals / Lead Guitar) and Johnny Rox (Bass Guitar).

Scheduled for release in Europe early Summer 2012, the album is currently in post-production at legendary Ocean Way Studios, Hollywood, CA.

MusicDishTV Presents “Titanic” by Steve Orchard

Steve Orchard’s video “Titanic” from the brilliant new age, instrumental music album “Undersail” begins with a ghost ship, slow harp introduction, waves, and a scene of a lone diver with rays of sun shining onto the ocean. Viewers will become captivated by pictures of this grand ship being built. Initially, the deck and wheel of the ship are first shown in pristine condition, but as the video continues, it becomes one big wreckage at the bottom of the sea while the music guides you along the journey, tugging at your heartstrings all the way.

The video and track allow you experience many difference feelings as you listen as secrets come to light and your mind connects to the music via images. The video is fascinating, and the pictures are touching and thought provoking. Strong percussion and a steady piano and harp grab you by the emotions and never let go as you feel yourself becoming part of the story, which is indeed a tragic one, but one that must be told nonetheless. It ends as it started, but with an ominous harp, and the waves are the last sound you hear. “Undersail” will be released by AD Music on CD and MP3, and available from iTunes and other major online retailers on April 13th.

Chinese Singer Ruhan Delights Midem Attendees

Midem 2012 served as the forum for China’s shot at launching a new artist internationally. Together with representative from the General Administration of Press & Publication (GAPP) and China Audio Video Association (CAVA), Shanghai Synergy Culture & Entertainment Group introduced singer Ruhan during a press conference at the Sound of China Pavilion on Sunday, January 29th. One of the first artists actively promoted by the national Chinese government, Ruhan performed three songs from her album “Time To Grow” which is being released in Europe and North American respectively by Silva Screen Records and OneEntertainment.


“Wars Of Love” is a strong and gripping song that Ruhan sang with power and emotion. With what sounded at times like a military sounding backdrop, transformed into a soft, tender support for her very capable vocals that did not fail to impress. Her range was hypnotic and her interpretation of the song was dynamic, as she hit every note with precision.


“Dancing On The Rainbow” is a lovely classic Chinese pop song. Ruhan took the audience on a trip that is absolutely captivating as they began to imagine that magical rainbow, while being moved by the emotions expressed in her voice. She also has amazing presence and poise to go along with her stunning voice as she reaches into the crowd to grab a gentleman and lead him into a short dance over that rainbow. At this point, the audience is pretty hooked by Ruhan’s vocal style and presence. But just when you thought you’d heard it all, she really lets go with her range and emotions, ending the song and dance with a thunderous conclusion. It speaks volumes to Ruhan’s talent that she was able to give this caliber performance in a non-traditional venue like the Riviera exhibit hall.
