Bass Music Pioneer Dub Gabriel Kickstarters New Album

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

San Francisco - October 16th, 2012 - Global Bass Music pioneer, Dub Gabriel has finalized production on his 4th studio album and has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the remaining elements needed for it’s International release in 2013.

About The Album:

Three years in the making and spanning multiple continents, Dub Gabriel combined his driving signature beats with live strings, guitars and synths, which were then mixed and dubbed through an arsenal of vintage analog gear to create the bass-driven foundation for some of the most respected figures in reggae and electronic music to step up to the plate: U-Roy, Warrior Queen, The Spaceape (Kode9/Burial), Brother Culture (On-U/Mungo’s Hi Fi), Jahdan Blakkamoore (Major Lazer), Dr. Israel, MC Zulu, Juakali, PJ Higgins (Temple of Sound), David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets), Pedro Erazo (Gogol Bordelo), and Mark Pistel (Hercules & Love Affair) - they all blaze with a burning fire to create the cross-cultural juggernaut that is “Raggabass Resistance”!

Dub Gabriel On The New Album:

“With the new album I feel I have finally achieved the future-organic sound that I have been striving for my whole life. In an age where music has become disposable, I set out to create an album that will hopefully stand the test of time and still feel relevant for years to come - just like the classic albums I fell in love with as a youth. When I listen to albums like Burning Spear’s “Marcus Garvey” or Bunny Wailer’s “Black Heart Man”, these are albums you play from beginning to end, flowing effortlessly from one great song to next only to be interrupted by a quick flip of the vinyl. It is records like these, records that embody the ideals, the struggles and the enlightenments of musicians speaking their truths that inspired me to set out and make the most dedicated reggae album of my career. I wanted to honor what I fell in love with when I first discovered this music but to call this a traditional reggae album would be a far stretch - I am fully at the controls and I give it my own voice to push it into the future to create a sound that I like to call RAGGABASS!”

About Crowdfunding and Dub Gabriel’s Kickstarter Campaign:

The rise of crowdfunding, as evidenced by the success of platforms like Kickstarter, has created a viable alternative for independently minded creators to raise the necessary finances to produce, manufacture and market their projects. Bypassing the traditional gatekeepers, crowdfunding empowers artists to connect directly with their fans and ultimately manifest their creative vision free of the influence of record labels and distributors. In the case of Dub Gabriel, he self-funded the production of the music but is now asking fans to support his fundraising campaign to create the artwork, master the album for both digital and vinyl release, manufacture the vinyl and, to hire a publicist for it’s commercial release. Fans who donate to the campaign can choose from a range of unique rewards packages that include obtaining the release digitally in hi resolution formats in advance of the general public, limited edition vinyl, exclusive T-shirts, live performances and, a series of rewards geared to other artists and producers that include royalty-free loop packs created by Dub Gabriel, remix services and Skype master classes in electronic music production. Scheduled to run until Tuesday Nov 13 at 7:07pm EST, more information on Dub Gabriel’s Kickstarter campaign for “Raggabass Resistance” can be found here: http://kck.st/RS7K3p

About Dub Gabriel:

Bass music pioneer Dub Gabriel has been pushing the low-end spectrum since his start at NYC’s legendary Limelight Club in the 90’s. Since then he has immersed himself in the studio process, creating 3 critically acclaimed albums and a recent string of heavy-hitting singles featuring (amongst others) U-Roy, Michael Stipe (REM), MC Zulu, Yo! Majesty, Jahdan Blakkamoore and 77Klash (both known for their work w/ Major Lazer). His unique take on Global Bass Music has led to many commissioned remixes, including some recent standouts for Maga Bo, Balkan Beat Box and Dubblestandart feat. Lee Scratch Perry and David Lynch. Under the guise of Jajouka Soundsystem, he recently worked with Bachir Attar (of the Master Musicians of Jajouka) and David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets) - their critically acclaimed first track, ‘Salahadeen’ is featured on the genre-bending Generation Bass “Transnational Dubstep” compilation on Six Degrees Records.

When not in the studio, Dub Gabriel travels the globe with his APC40 busting down the barriers between DJ’ing and live electronic performance. His trailblazing style has created much demand on the international club and festival circuits, with highlights being his headlining set at Germany’s legendary Fusion Festival, 2 tours of China, Canada’s Shambhala Music Festival and, a ongoing series of high-intensity club shows that include slamming sets at ICON Berlin, Hamburg’s Golden Pudel and regular guest spots at Francois K’s “Deep Space” night at Cielo in NYC!

PRESS QUOTES:

“New York-based producer, Dub Gabriel, supplies the bigness and relentlessness you need for a modern dub fix” - LA Weekly.

New Release By Ariana “You’re Not Alone” Is Out Now

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

The time is here for the new release by Ariana “You’re Not Alone” on Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/arianaofficial/youre-not-alone

After taking a few years off, multi-platinum recording artist Ariana is set to release her new single “You’re Not Alone” in an unexpected new genre for the soulful Russian American vocalist, whose hits included power ballads “Under the Spanish Sky” and “I’ll Do it All Again”.

“Taking time off was the best choice I could’ve made, because now I’m ready to dive head first into my musical passion — the world of EDM. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m finally ready to share it with my patient and loyal fans all over the world!” says Ariana of her return to music. Her new single “You’re Not Alone” is a delectable mix of vocal progressive house and dubstep with a hint of her current influences, Nadia Ali, Medina, and Kaskade. “Typically, in EDM, the focus is on the DJ and the vocals are like a complementary accessory to the song. I’d like to help change that, and bring the focus back to the singer and create a harmonious marriage, if you will, between the two sides. I think it could really be something glorious.”

In terms of her plans, Ariana doesn’t plan to only focus on her own project. “Because I’ve been in the music business for so many years, I always saw myself developing and producing talent as well as my own music. This is why I try to surround myself with as much young talent as possible — because that’s where the future of music is at. Jack Wilson, who co-wrote and co-produced my new single is a rising star…you can quote me on that!” Judging by the buzz her new track is creating — we think so too.

You can follow Ariana’s progress on Twitter: @Arianaisback, or her website: www.arianaofficial.com.”

MusicDishTV Presents “Hello” By Award Winning DJ JP

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

“Hello”, a new animated video from the award winning DJ JP, explodes onto the screen with a massive bass and Electro pop track. The low voice speaks in English, and it’s very humorous and entertaining with very simply drawn characters moving around on a black background. The bass has an elastic sound, and a moving line that sounds like a jazz walking bass. A little man in a hat is searching everywhere as he walks past the country side flowers, and through the rain storm to find someone he’s trying to talk to, but can’t hear. The music becomes more intense as the kick drum and high note keyboards keep climbing higher in tension, and the poor little man just keeps trekking through the city traffic. Ahhh, finally the payoff comes as night falls, and our hero is joined by many friends that came to dance, and party! “Thanks for coming!”. This will be perfect when fans come to hear JP spin at one of his shows! Smartly placed social buttons are on the end of the video for social media sites, offering fans numerous ways to connect with DJ JP.

MusicDishTV Presents “Breath” By Sound Liberation And Chanda Rule

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Sound Liberation, accompanied by Chanda Rule, has collaborated with Luma Launisch to create a beautiful artistic video for the song “Breath”. This video juxtaposes two layers of video; the vocalist’s emotional performance on one and a landscape style shot of an everyday city on the other. The artistic prowess of the video is made evident from the first dissonant synth hit that builds into a great indie-R&B fusion score. The vocalist demonstrates incredible power with a strong, confident singing voice. She guides the viewer through various cultures of the city, exposing the beauty in everyday life. This video is clearly a first-class production and the results is an amazing video.

Singer/Songwriter Tina Malia Debuts Pop/electronic Album “The Lost Frontier” Today Worldwide

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Singer/Songwriter/Multi-instrumentalist/Producer Tina Malia debuts today her highly anticipated pop/electronic album “The Lost Frontier.” Malia delivers a rawness and authenticity through her extraordinary voice and musical compositions as well as in her lyrics and prose. Each song on “The Lost Frontier” is powerful on its own, kicking off with the sensuous second single “Serendipity” and the global electronic introspection of the title track to the building dance beat of “Undercover” and the inspirational groove of “Spark.” Collectively the album makes an indelible mark every time one hears it. Upon each listening something new is learned, as the songs inspire instead of instigate, observe rather than point, wonder rather than blame. Each of the 10 original tracks is part of the greater whole, which at the end of the day is an affirmation of love, of hope, of responsibility for ourselves and each other.

“The title track sets up the entire album ‘The Lost Frontier’ because it highlights the cyclical nature of our existence and the far extremes that lie within it. The wheel is merely an observer as we move through revolutions of creation and decay, hope and despair, beauty and destruction. ‘The Lost Frontier’ is about acknowledging and understanding these different aspects in life and remembering that we have the power to choose what we do with that knowledge.” Tina Malia

RealSing.Org
“The Lost Frontier” already has people talking as it becomes the first pop/electronic album to get the RealSing.org stamp of vocal authenticity, which means Malia’s vocals were recorded without any vocal pitch manipulation technology such as Auto-Tune. The RealSing Collective – made up of GRAMMY-winning singers, songwriters, engineers, producers and music industry organizations– evaluates and then gives official certification to authentic recorded vocal performances.

Army Pink
Tina Malia is the first indie artist to be named as an Ambassador of Peace for the new global brand-of-action Army Pink (http://www.facebook.com/ArmyPinkGirls). Army Pink pledges a portion of its sales to support organizations that make positive change in regions of the world and areas of our lives running at a peace deficit. Its Ambassadors of Peace are female musicians – representing legends, icons and independent artists – who are courageous and committed to promoting peace worldwide.

More Tina Malia
A multi-talented artist and highly trained musician, Ms. Malia not only writes and sings her own material, she also engineers and produces her albums, playing many of the instruments included on them. Originally trained as a classical pianist by her mother, she credits her father for introducing her to guitar and folk music, which led her to such iconic female singer/songwriters as Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Alison Krauss and the Indigo Girls, among others. On “The Lost Frontier,” we hear these influences as well as flavors of electronic, world, pop and dance.

Of Korean and Yugoslavian descent, Ms. Malia exhibits a natural ease within the talented artist’s powers of observation. Her travels around the world and interest in many cultures eventually led her to Sanskrit mantra chanting, which she describes as “simple yet extraordinary,” and to which she attributes her sense of well being.

As an artist, her love of different cultures and music has helped distinguish her in styles ranging from pop to world/acoustic to electronic. Her own diverse and growing catalog of albums is complemented by work with iconic artists such as Carlos Santana, India.Arie, Bonnie Raitt, Kenny Loggins, Bassnectar, Jai Uttal and Idan Raichel.

Grin City By Strawberry Nightmares

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

This summer, one city will witness an uprising.

Of course it’s Grin City, the 5th album by UK based electronic outfit Strawberry Nightmares.
Grin City contains 13 brand new tracks, freshly slaughtered (Inhumanely obviously), gutted, sliced diced, digitized and ready for your palate.

Released digitally on August 23rd the band has delivered its Maximalist-Clowncore-Jokelectro style once again, except better, somehow.
Avid listeners will notice plenty more samples, guitars, breakdowns, builds, more madness and a much more danceable vibe overall. Although there are still a couple of more chilled pieces to put your pet iguana to sleep, or for when you are on a caffeine comedown.

Influences remain numerous and eclectic including internet sensation Leeroy Jenkins, old kung-fu movies, Rustie, Zombies, Frank Miller comics and Cartoon Networks Adventure Time. All these and more are the fuel behind the beats, bells, bleeps and “Lick My Face”s featured within.

For those who cant wait and have recently acquired a nervous tick, get your hands on some FREE music now. In the wake of another ‘rising’ Strawberry Nightmares have a Batman inspired track available for download on their official site.

Grin City will be available for download from Amazon,iTunes, Spotify and more from August 23rd 2012.

Italy’s The Medullary Paralysis Live In Hong Kong June 30, 2012

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

It’s gonna be dark, bleak, desperate, intense and far-out.
It also just so happens that it’s gonna sound bloody great and gonna be tonnes of fun.
What’s this you ask?

The Medullary Paralysis are coming to HK all the way from Italy once again, and they’re making a stop with the Underground. With their deep, dark yet handsome music they’ll carry you willingly into the 90s mixed with the 80s. To help them with their agenda, we have Vrank, the Manson-inspired heavy rockers, and the “Future-music” electronica of Blak.

It’s gonna be lots of great music, and supplemented by lots of beer as well.
So mark 30th June down on your calendars as a night for some gothically oriented fun…

The Underground presents The Medullary Paralysis in HK 2012
Saturday, 30th June 2012
@ Backstage, 1/F Somptueux Central, 54 Wellington Road, Central

Bands: The Medullary Paralysis (Italy), Vrank, Blak
10:00pm - 1:00am
$100 (Including 1 Becks beer)

More about the bands:

The Medullary Paralysis:
The Medullary Paralysis is an idiosyncratic lifestyle. We don’t drink, we don’t take drugs, we don’t have mechanical sex. The problem is addiction. We have a new vision about how to enjoy life. We hate victimism and we practice compassion. Latex is nothing special. You don’t need to wear it 24/7 to own your life. Take the chance to be reborn.

Our ears were weaned on the eighties: through our parent’s music, the radio and the tv… then mix that subliminal background with the nineties during which we passed through our adolescence… You have an out-of-body experience when we mix The Smashing Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson and the 80s. Not-so-industrial-glam on the dance floor.
———————-
Vrank 梵姬:
A gothic industrial based in Hong Kong, started in 2008.
Gothic industrial music has always possessed the mystic power that the majority is curious to probe but dares not to enter. In Hong Kong, the city that is soaked with canto-pop, vrank presents their debut album that cares for the minority, challenges the unfair standards that are constantly raised to the weak.
Probably true to many people that music is just for entertainment, which is quite politically-correct in a sense. vrank, however, selfishly exploit the medium as a ten-year soul-searching journey - a surreal expedition that exposes the hidden side in their minds, and very likely in others too. It is all subjective emotions through the music compositions and yet, it is also all objective contradictions through the cynical lyrics.

Blak:
BLΛK is an electronic band consisting of Hong Kong musicians Po Kei, Jacky, Angus and Marvin. With “Destroy and Create” as the band’s motto, their ambition is to create their visionary “Future Music” by destroying the traditional rock band format.

The band originate by Jacky and Po Kei, the active musicians in Hong Kong rock scene. Po Kei is the members of an Indie Rock band Good Fellas, Jacky is a member of an Alternative Rock band Velvette Vendetta. These 2 bands are famed for their phenomenal and energetic live performances, which has led them exposures in major venues & festivals such as Venetian Arena (Macau), Clockenflap (Hong Kong), A-Fest (Manila) & Baybeats (Singapore). After some successful years of the former bands, they decided to explore their talents in electronic dance music, employing VST, synthesizers, dance beats, and catchy hooks, in their pop melodic songs.

In 2012, Marvin (drummer from In Love and Pain!) and Angus (guitarist from Good Fellas) are invited to join the band, making BLΛK a full powerful dance music act. Don’t miss the chance to feel the intensity of their live performance.

I was at a musical crossroads when a friend showed me some of her work on video. Seeing what Kate was doing made me want to write…BIG TIME! I think she’s incredibly talented and I’m honored to be a part of this production. My earliest musical recollections can be traced back to the harmonies on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumors’ and the dreaminess of the synthesizers on Gary Wright’s ‘Dream Weaver.’ I felt like it took me to a different place…just like Kate’s choreography of her dancers visually transports me to another place.”

‘Upsidedown, Underwater’, the Happily Ever After Dance Showcase signature piece, was recorded, mixed and produced by Adam Moyer at Immelman Studio, and mastered by Ron McMaster at Capitol Studios and Mastering in Hollywood, CA. ‘Massive (intro)’; ‘Faeries’; ‘the Skip, the Trip’; ‘Running So Fast’; ‘Brian, Where’s the Pollen?’; ‘Balance Beyond Words’; and ‘Simpler Than This’ were recorded, mixed and produced by Adam Moyer at Immelman Studio, mastered by Tarekith at Inner Portal Studio, Seattle, WA, with album art direction and graphic design by Jehan Khateeb at DesignByJehan.com, San Francisco, CA.
