Pop/Rock Trio Beyond The Sun Releases My Kind Of Crazy EP, Kick Off Tour

Friday, October 26th, 2012

This milestone will be celebrated by an official release party on Saturday, November 3 at The Mod Club, 722 College St. W, Toronto, ON from 7 – 10:30 p.m. as part of the Landmark Events Showcase. This special event is part of the band’s extensive 2012-2013 tour of Canada, U.S.A. and Europe.

“Colin Radu is an extraordinary up-and-coming singer/songwriter. With his band Beyond The Sun, Colin displays the soulful influences of singers, from Gavin DeGraw, to Ryan Tedder combined with the timelessness of Pat Monahan (Train). He and his band are a force to be reckoned with.”
Ken Tamplin, The Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, Los Angeles, CA

“I’ve known Phil Radu for a couple of years, having had him as a student at Berklee in a few different classes. He’s always done really well. Recently I had the chance to listen to some of his band’s latest release. I knew it would be good, but I was still floored by the songs, production, talent and focus. He and his brothers seem to follow a very simple formula: Write great songs; play and sing them really well. Beyond The Sun is a winner in my opinion!”
Jon Finn, Professor, Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA

The fresh, energetic and heartfelt music of Beyond The Sun celebrates the Canadian band’s belief that lyrics and melodies can tell an on-going, universal story and help human beings connect powerfully through their many diverse experiences. Through catchy yet personal tunes that sparkle with infinite layers of harmony, guitarist Phil, lead vocalist Colin and drummer Dalton unleash tunes that resonate personally with their audiences. Growing up in an environment where creativity, the Arts and humor were equally supported, they immersed themselves in many styles of music, from pop, rock and folk, to rap and hip hop at an early age and found limitless ways to make music from their toys and other objects they discovered in the world. After forming Beyond The Sun, the trio immediately garnered the attention of audiences throughout its home country and elsewhere. Along with maintaining an ambitious schedule of live shows, each member continues to fine-tune his proficiency at his instrument, with two members formally studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

Beyond The Sun has performed at many venues across the GTA including The Reverb, The Opera House, Healey’s, Edge 102 Studios and the Royal York Hotel. They have also played at various sports entertainment arenas including the Air Canada Centre, The Toronto Roadrunners Pre-Post game Festivities at the Ricoh Coliseum and seven seasons at the Rogers Centre with the Toronto Argonauts. The three have also played at notable festivals including Festival of the Islands, Burlington Sound of Music, CNE Rising Star and the Brantford and Oshawa Canada Day Festivals.

Strumming It Out On Weekends

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Following 22 performances in 2011 in Germany and Austria, acoustic duo Runway 27, Left’s first album ‘Weekend Warriors’ is set to be released. Says Runway 27, Left’s Erich ‘White Feather’ Brandl, ‘Actually, it’s all in the lyrics of our new album’s title track. When you’re the new kid on the block on the blues scene, you’re essentially strumming it out on weekends.’ The harbinger of their upcoming first album, radio-only release ‘Flawed & Flattened’, has already gathered radio airplay in the UK, the USA, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany and Austria.

March 2012 sees the album ‘Weekend Warriors’ available at live performances and on download platforms. The release party took place on 9 March at long-time supporter venue ‘Strasshofer Kellertheater’, a unique venue a few miles east of Austria’s capital of Vienna well-known for superb live performances of music and high-quality stand-up comedy. The road further took the blues duo to Bierkanzlei, Vienna’s intimate focus for both audience and musicians run by ‘beer chancellor’ Manfred.

However, Runway 27, Left’s German friends won’t be left in the cold with their 2012 performances in Hamburg, Lüdenscheid, Bonn, Bad Nauheim and Landshut. The duo’s album trail comes to full swing having them strum it out in Austria again, calling on Frohnleiten at Café meLounge and Wiener Neustadt at Hexenbräu, with additional shows throughout the year still to be confirmed.

Runway 27, Left is a blues project having former Trans Am/Sun Luca/Run Riot bass player Erich ‘White Feather’ Brandl and My Other Brother lead vocalist Anthony ‘Tone’ Kammerhofer team up.

The musicians (Erich Brandl - guitars, bass, banjo, backing vocals and Anthony Kammerhofer - lead vocals, rhythm guitars) try to reconnect with the roots of pop and rock music, calling their style ‘In-Blues Entertainment’.

To get your copy of their new album and to learn where Runway 27, Left will strum it out on weekends in 2012, see their schedule below:

7 Jun 2012 Mobile Blues Club - Hamburg, Germany

The Two Sides Of Jefferson Thomas

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

By Shelley Rosen

After spending most of 2008 and 2009 slogging it out in his van supporting his “Western Front” release, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jefferson Thomas was burned out, and found himself taking a self-described “working vacation” by lending his talents to other artists. “I guess my name got around a little. Dave Diedrich, Matthew Foster-Moore, and a few others heard the work I’d done on my own releases and hired me, and suddenly I was a ‘producer’. I wasn’t exactly comfortable with that title at first, but after spending a year and a half playing anywhere and everywhere, toting your own rock day after day, you get sick of the sound of your own name. This was a great diversion, and totally rejuvenating. It got me excited about making music again, and it’s actually more challenging not being the boss.”

Throughout 2010 and into 2011, while hard at work helping others shape their visions, Thomas kept writing. With the pressure on someone else to unleash their own masterpieces, he could relax on his own material, creating for creation’s sake, without a deadline. One day, he was surprised to find that he’d gradually cranked out over twenty new tunes that were keepers. It was Diedrich who, upon hearing that, first suggested a double-release. No one was more dubious of such a heady idea than Thomas himself.

“I said ‘I can’t do that!’ You figure only huge household names can get away with something as presumptuous and arrogant as a double-record. Then I thought, well, that’s because those folks are usually the only ones who can afford to do it, but I have more than enough music, and I can afford to do it. And hell, I am presumptuous and arrogant! (laughs). So then it became a question of how to go about it, and how to position it. What approach makes the most sense? What’s the angle?”

The “angle” turned out to be a pragmatic solution to the one nagging problem; all the songs didn’t fit together, but they did seem to fall easily into two distinct camps. “I had some rootsy and twangy stuff which was a lot of fun, and then I had a bunch of darker stuff that rocked harder. They weren’t radically different, like Gregorian chant vs. Goth-polka or whatever, but there were definitely two clearly-defined houses, and each song’s impact was ultimately better served by having it live in the right one.”

As a joke, and in deference to his favorite habit of browsing through his father’s classic vinyl collection, he began using “Side One” and “Side Two” as working titles for the two groups of material. “I fully intended to come up with actual titles for each one, but as the work progressed, two distinct lyrical moods also emerged . It was like side one and side two of me. I decided we should make them look exactly the same, like a collector’s set, but in different colors; red and black, like a roulette table. Someone at one point suggested I call them ‘The Red Album’ and ‘The Black Album,’ which sounded incredibly pompous to me. Yeah, right. When you outsell the Beatles and Metallica someday, you can do that.”

“Side One” is loose, boozy roots-rock and alt.country. Its songs feature characters straight out of a Bukowski barroom. “Side Two” is the more ambitious of the two, musically and production-wise, with moody string arrangements here and there and a few cinematic cross-fades. The characters in these songs are caught in the very real recent American landscape of crippling economic woes and the bleak aftermath, and they don’t really ever make it out. Some kill, some die, some run drugs and guns, and the ones left standing avoid the mirror in the morning. Thomas laughs when he sums it up. “I guess the first one is about my demons. The second one is about your demons.”

The two records will be released as separate entities about three months apart; Side One debuted in early January, and Side Two hits the street in April. A combined twin-disc version bundled with exclusive content (videos, bonus tracks, etc) will be available late in the year. Thomas will tour extensively off them, with dates in the U.S. through the late spring and summer and overseas legs in the fall and winter. “Well, it’s a double-dose of new music to push, so it’s not like we’ll be taking the winter off to go hibernate in the studio and come out with something new, like we usually do. Damn, what have I done?!”

Brent Byrd Tours…Til’ The World Ends 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012
Florida acoustic touring musician Brent Byrd aptly titled ‘The Peaceful Rebel Man’ will kick off his 2012 Til’ The World Ends Tour on February 1st beginning with a performance at Churchill’s Pub in Miami, FL.

Byrd has been roughing it on the road to his dream, literally. Throughout 2011, Brent has been wearing out the tires on his 20′ Coachmen RV touring the U.S. in support of his self-released CD ‘Time To Start Livin’. He has been making waves across the country as an explosive live performer incorporating loops and acoustic instruments to create live improvised jams with a folk rock infused vibe.

Byrd has most recently performed with Beverly McClellan from NBC-TV’s The Voice at Flamingo Gardens annual Flamingo Fest in Davie, Florida. Over the years he has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many musicians to include Jason Mraz, Shawn Mullins, Uncle Tupelo (Jeff Tweedy, Jay Farrar), Thomas Ian Nichols (American Pie Movies), Velvet Revolver, Shinedown, Papa Roach and My Chemical Romance at Buzzfest XIV while touring with the band SuperDeluxe and Steve Ewing from The Urge as well as many other artists.

Byrd currently resides in St. Augustine but grew up in small college town in east central Illinois. After graduating high school he traded in his guitar for an M-16 and set off on a 4 year hitch in Army. The experienced opened up his eyes to the problems and tribulations of the world which has become an inspiration for his songwriting.

His music has been described as if Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix were jammin’ at a late night party and just before sunrise The Black Crowes and Bob Dylan showed up to add the finishing touches to an unforgettable evening of musical madness.

During his 2012 tour, Byrd plans to descend on 11 states throughout the Southeast and Midwest wrapping up in April with a performance at The 48th Annual Ron Jon Easter Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach, FL before heading west. Brent says of his future touring plans, “I plan to keep on going until the world ends or the highway…then turn around and do it all over again”.

Mohanik is a garage rock/punk band from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. After forming in 2004 and playing club gigs around their native city, they had a breakout year in 2009. Their playing tightened up, revealing an infectious pop side to their thorough punk passion. Due to their new confidence, their shows generated a lot of buzz, culminating in a win for “Best Alternative/Punk Band” at the 2009 Mongolian Underground Music Awards (MUMA). They also released two singles on a the Hi-Fi Label Presents… Underground Sessions compilation. Their songs proved quite popular, especially Moritoi Ch Boloosio. They followed with the release of their debut album, 100-N Undaa (100 Tugrik Soda). In April 2011, the band made their international debut in Shanghai, playing two raucous shows in Shanghai as part of Trash A Go-Go. -Ho-Tom the Conqueror (Tom Mangione), singer/guitarist of The Horde

“Mohanik’s on-stage energy is only surpassed by the warmth and friendliness they showed us throughout our tour in Mongolia. I’d let them babysit my future children anytime.”

-Ivan Belcic, vocalist of Moon Tyrant and Death to Giants

Moon Tyrant: Shanghai hard rock/heavy metal band with shredding riffs and throat tearing vocals. The band can crash heavy ahead but can swing when the moment catches them. Check out their album Future Superhuman. They toured Mongolian with Mohanik, but this is their first show in Beijing.

DJ B.O: He rebels against people who DJ because they are afraid to dance in public. He will sing and dance to provoke movement. He is somewhere between vaudeville and Warhol. Featuring vintage-hits and forgotten favorites, he thinks dance music is for pussies but The Shanghri-Las are fucking artists, man. Tech? NO.

Country Music Artist Michael Desselle Releases 2 New Singles To The Public

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Email: ranluron@aol.com
Website: http://www.michaeldesselle.com

Country Artist Michael Desselle, formerly known as Molten Mike has just released back to back singles through Ranluron Music.

“These 2 songs are the third and forth singles released for the “I’m All In” full length CD. The “A” side is “Low Tech Redneck”. This song spoofs the modern day computer age and every line is a humerous look at how we cope with the meaning of words. For example: I sing in the first verse “I ain’t much at Twitter but I’ll fry you up some fritters just right. I thought Yahoo was somthin’ that you yell on Saturday Night. I thought a gig was a show, if that ain’t confusin’ enough. I thought My Space is where, is where I kept my stuff.” You get the idea? The second song or the “B” side is titled “Goin’ Back to Tennessee” and is a perfect line dancing tempo.
The song’s Chorus goes “I’m goin’ back to Tennessee, I got a girl on top of that mountain, I know she’s waitin for me. I’m goin’ back to the one I love, She’s got the body of a devil but the face, the face of an angel above, angel above.” These two singles are extremely Country and feature the Bay Area’s top pickers and players including Kenny K on Steel Guitar and Telecaster, Billy Sandlin on Banjo, John Richard on Fiddle, Glenn Stevenson on Bass, Ralph Famiglietti on Mandolin and Randall Ierna on Drums and percussion. Both songs were recorded and mastered at ESP, our favorite studio with the incomparable Glenn Laubaugh at the controls. These songs will be offered on the new full length CD along with “One Little Love” a Country Waltz love song, and “Thank a Soldier” a tribute to all of our troops who have served or are now serving our Country. Other songs slated for release soon are “Wouldn’t Treat a Dog Like That” “That Old Time Music”, “Some Cowgirls”, “The Meaning of Lover” and “Gas on the Flames”.said Michael.

“I am extremely excited about this fabulous project”. said Randall Ierna, Publisher and Executive Producer of Ranluron Music, BMI. “Michael has really nailed the genre with these new songs. He has been writing and recording his music with us for 14 years and has put out 5 full length CD’s, with 60 original songs and tunes.
His prior works have garnered many great reviews and he has received airplay all over the world.
Four of his Albums “Chameleon, “The Movie”, “Genuine Bluesman”, and “Blues Meltdown” were rated number 1 Albums in 5 catagories on MP3tunes. His fifth CD is a compilation of 20 Roots Blues and Country Blues and was produced for his first Australian tour and re-released for his second tour. After all those CD’s, He switched genres and now is a full time Country Artist. Michael has received 18 music awards and nominations including “Best Songwriter”, “Best Singer”, “Best Guitarist” and “Best Entertainer” awards. He has played 7 years of Pre-Game entertainment with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,2 seasons of Pre-Game entertainment with the Tampa Bay Rays, and has appeared and performed at many Festivals and Events.
