It’s Hard to be in the “Justice” League

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay make up Electronic dance group Justice, for those of you who don’t know who they are (and if you don’t what on earth is wrong with you?). The group released the highly acclaimed album Cross.

The French duo started out doing remixes of other artists, such as Simian Mobile Disco for a college radio station remix contest. They later went on to do remixes of more commercial artists such as Britney Spears, N*E*R*D*, and Daft Punk (who have no doubt been a massive influence on them).

The duo signed for Ed Banger Records Label, after the success of their remix of Simians “We are your Friends,” rose to international success. As their popularity grew in the club scene and all over the internet, their prolific remix work continued into artists such as Franz Ferdinand and Mr Oizo. It was in June 2007 that the album Cross (or † ) was released. D.A.N.C.E. (one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen). It sent the electro scene by storm. Ed Banger Records had hit the jackpot.

In my opinion Justice, are the only electro group to really rival Daft Punk. D.P. set the standard when they released the incredible album Discovery, but that is for another article. Justice’s heavy dirty beats and samples just make you want to put your hands up in the air, stomp your feet, jump around like an idiot, and basically go raving. Another group has this power, and thats Prodigy.

Their music almost sounds like electro house, with bass slapping, very very heavy distorted synths and some vocals on tracks like Ttttheee Parrttyyy ft Uffie (another awesome Ed Banger artist).

If you haven’t noticed, electro over the last 3 years has been very popular. Look at the Black Eyed Peas and how heavily influenced they are with electro beats, or David Guetta cleverly combining house and RnB. Justice no doubt had some participation in getting people into the music.

A Cross the Universe is a live album where you can hear remixes of their own music. Be sure to check out their MGMT remix of Electric Feel (its so awesome). Fans and new fans will be pleased to know they are releasing an album sometime in 2010, so hold tight, as these guys (at the moment) really are the kings of electro. You have to be very good to get into the Justice League, leotards, and superpowers unfortunately are a form of cheating.
